Lip Fillers in Stone, Staffordshire: What to Expect, How Much Filler You Need & Aftercare Advice

By Sharon Green, Level 7 Aesthetics Practitioner  |  FACE Aesthetics Beauty & Wellbeing, Stone, Staffordshire

Thinking about lip fillers but not sure where to start? At FACE Aesthetics in Stone, we believe an informed client is a happy client. Here, I'll walk you through everything — from your first consultation right through to healed results.

What Are Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers — also known as lip augmentation or lip enhancement — use a hyaluronic acid (HA) gel to add volume, shape and definition to the lips. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally found in the body, which makes it a safe and well-tolerated choice for most clients.

At FACE Aesthetics in Stone, High Street, every lip filler treatment is carried out by me, Sharon Green — a Level 7 qualified aesthetics practitioner and registered dental nurse (GDC). My in-depth training in head and neck anatomy means your lips are in experienced, knowledgeable hands.

Whether you're looking for a subtle hydration boost, a touch more volume or greater lip definition, we'll design a treatment that suits your face and your goals — never a one-size-fits-all approach.

Your Free Consultation at FACE, Stone

Every lip filler journey at FACE begins with a free, no-obligation consultation. This is your opportunity to share your concerns, ask questions and talk through the look you'd like to achieve.

During your consultation, I will:

  • Assess the natural shape, symmetry and proportions of your lips

  • Review your medical history to confirm suitability

  • Discuss the amount of filler that would best achieve your desired outcome

  • Explain realistic expectations and show before-and-after examples

  • Answer every question you have — there are no silly questions

💡 Sharon's Tip

Bring along photos of lip shapes you like — or even shapes you want to avoid. It helps me understand the look you're aiming for and makes sure we're completely aligned before treatment begins.

How Much Lip Filler Do You Need?

Lip filler is measured in millilitres (ml). Most treatments use between 0.5 ml and 1 ml of hyaluronic acid filler. The right amount depends entirely on your starting point and your goals.

Volume

Best For

Typical Result

0.5 ml

First-time clients, subtle enhancement, hydration

Natural-looking plumpness and definition — barely-there yet noticeable

1 ml

Fuller volume, more defined Cupid's bow, lip border enhancement

A noticeable but balanced enhancement that still looks natural

1.5 ml+

Clients who have had filler before, or those seeking a fuller look

Noticeable volume increase — discussed and planned carefully in consultation

My professional recommendation is always to start conservatively. It is far easier to add more filler at a follow-up appointment than to overfill. First-time clients at FACE usually begin with 0.5–1 ml and we build from there based on your satisfaction.

What to Expect on Treatment Day

Before Your Appointment

  • Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours beforehand

  • Avoid blood-thinning medications (ibuprofen, aspirin) unless medically prescribed — check with your GP if unsure

  • Arrive with clean, make-up free lips

  • Stay well hydrated on the day

  • Let Sharon know if you have ever had a cold sore — a course of antiviral medication may be advisable beforehand

The Treatment Itself

Your lip filler appointment at FACE takes approximately 30–45 minutes in total, including a pre-treatment assessment and aftercare discussion. The injection process itself is usually under 15 minutes.

A topical numbing cream is applied to the lips before treatment begins, and many of our hyaluronic acid fillers also contain lidocaine (a local anaesthetic), making the procedure as comfortable as possible. Most clients describe the sensation as a mild pressure or slight pinch — manageable and brief.

During Injection

Using a fine needle or cannula (depending on the technique most appropriate for your lips), I will carefully introduce the filler into specific areas — whether that is the body of the lip for volume, the vermilion border for definition, or the Cupid's bow for shape. Precision is everything, and I take my time.

📍 At Our Stone Clinic

Our Stone clinic is located on the High Street, Stone, ST15 8AW. We're open Tuesday to Saturday — with daytime and early evening slots available. Evening and out-of-hours appointments can also be arranged upon request.

Immediately After Treatment

Some redness, mild swelling and tenderness at the injection sites is completely normal and expected. This typically peaks within the first 24–48 hours and settles within a week. Your lips may feel firmer than usual initially — this also softens as the filler integrates.

Lip Filler Aftercare: How to Look After Your Lips

Good aftercare makes a real difference to your results. Here is exactly what I advise all of my clients at FACE:

First 24 Hours

  • Keep the area clean — gently clean the lips with cool water only

  • Avoid touching or pressing your lips — resist the temptation to feel the filler

  • No make-up on the lips for at least 24 hours

  • Avoid strenuous exercise — increased blood flow can worsen swelling

  • No alcohol — it thins the blood and increases bruising risk

  • Avoid very hot drinks and spicy food that may irritate the area

  • No kissing or facial massage around the lip area

Days 2–7

  • Swelling should noticeably reduce by day 3–4

  • Apply a plain lip balm to keep lips hydrated (avoid anything heavily fragranced)

  • Avoid sunbeds, saunas and steam rooms for at least 2 weeks

  • Stay out of direct sunlight or use a high-SPF lip balm if outdoors

  • Avoid dental treatment for at least 2 weeks where possible

  • Gently massage the lips after day 3 only if specifically advised to do so by Sharon

Weeks 2–4: Your Settled Results

Lip filler typically takes 2 weeks to fully settle, at which point the swelling has completely resolved and the hyaluronic acid has integrated naturally into the lip tissue. This is the stage to assess your results and decide whether a top-up is desired.

Results from lip filler generally last between 6 and 12 months, depending on the product used, your metabolism and lifestyle factors. Regular clients often find results last longer over time as the filler accumulates gradually.

Is Lip Filler Safe? Choosing the Right Practitioner

Lip filler is a safe and well-established aesthetic treatment when carried out by a trained, qualified practitioner using reputable products. The key word there is qualified.

At FACE Aesthetics, I hold a Level 7 qualification in Aesthetic Medicine — the highest level of postgraduate aesthetics training available. Combined with my background as a registered dental nurse and my extensive knowledge of facial anatomy, I understand both the artistry and the medicine involved.

From 2026, new UK regulations now require aesthetic practitioners to work under a prescribing clinician — at FACE, we are fully compliant with all industry regulation and your safety is our highest priority.

When choosing where to have lip filler, always ask:

  • What qualifications does my practitioner hold?

  • Are they registered with a professional body?

  • Is a consultation offered before treatment?

  • What products do they use, and are they medical-grade?

  • What is the protocol if something goes wrong?

At FACE, the answers to all of the above are clear and transparent. We never rush consultations, and we will always be honest with you about what is — and isn't — suitable for your face.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lip Fillers

Does lip filler hurt?

Discomfort is minimal. We apply a topical anaesthetic cream before treatment and many of the fillers we use contain lidocaine within the product itself. Most clients are pleasantly surprised by how straightforward it is.

How long does the treatment take?

Allow 30–45 minutes for your appointment, which includes a pre-treatment review and aftercare walkthrough. The injection element is typically around 10–15 minutes.

Can lip filler be dissolved?

Yes — one of the key benefits of hyaluronic acid filler is that it is fully reversible. An enzyme called hyaluronidase can dissolve the filler quickly if you are unhappy with the results or in the rare event of a complication. This is something I always discuss with clients before treatment.

What if I bruise?

Bruising is a normal side effect and affects some clients more than others. To minimise it, avoid blood-thinning substances beforehand and book your appointment with enough time before any important events — we recommend at least 2 weeks.

How soon can I wear lipstick?

We ask that you avoid lip make-up for the first 24 hours. After that, you can wear lipstick as normal.

Will my lips look fake?

Only if that is the look you are going for! At FACE, our philosophy is enhancement, not transformation. We focus on creating results that complement your natural features. The goal is for people to notice how well you look — not that you've had filler.
